Great Stuff In The Works!

Good morning friends! I’m really excited about some of the things I’ve got in the works for all of you out there! If you know me at all, you probably know that I have had some success as a nurse entrepreneur. You probably also know that I’ve helped lots of people achieve better physical health and financial health. AND, I’ve done pretty well as an author too! I’m not saying this to toot my own horn. I’ve said all that to say this…I want to help YOU ALL get to that NEXT LEVEL you might be seeking in your life. I firmly believe if you’re not growing, your dying.Life was meant to be lived and sometimes the only thing that’s stopping people just not having that friend or mentor that can really help give that guidance (based on experience).

This being said, I’ve really been creating some great content for all my readers out there that may be interested in becoming healthier and happier, whether that be through entrepreneurship or possibly fitness and/or health goals. Or maybe it’s just to be able to start dreaming again. Through the past 5 years I’ve come to realize that most people, as they get older, forget how to dream and often times become stagnant in life. LIFE WAS MEANT TO BE LIVED! YOU were created for GREATNESS! Let’s find it together. 🙂

I look forward to sharing all the stuff I’ve got in the pipeline with all of you. The weekend is almost here to any of you work-a-holics out there, which means 2 things:HALLOWEEN and TIME CHANGE. Remember Fall back!

Stay Healthy and Happy my friends! NurseMike OUT!!!

I Spent the Night With a Crazy Man…Literally

I sat there in that hospital recliner listening to a man talk non-stop for 8 hours straight. Most things he spoke of made absolutely no sense at unnamed-3all. At times he would begin a story somewhere in the middle of the story. Other times he would be in the middle of a sentence and stop abruptly and just sit there staring into space, appearing as if he were listening to someone tell him something. At times he would respond to questions asked by no one in the room. He became quite frustrated when the female nurses aids would enter the room, often times cursing and raising his voice. He wrote furiously throughout the night on pieces of paper given to him at his request. “Here”, he said as he passed me a note he had written, “They’re out there watching us.” He was elderly, he was confused, misunderstood by most I’m sure. This man suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is a psychological disorder characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to recognize what is real and what is not. It’s a disease you’ve probably seen in movies where tjack-nicholson-the-shininghe character, often times, is involved in a series of murders or deranged acts of violence. Unfortunately, this nonsense has led to a stigma by the general population of patients suffering from mental illness. These poor souls ar feared by many, misunderstood by most, and made fun of by more than a few.

Mental illness is certainly no laughing matter. Because of its prevalence I’d be willing to bet many of you have been directly or indirectly affected by mental illness at one time or another. As an ER/ICU Nurse, I can tell you I’ve definitely seen my fair share. You know what’s terrible? What’s terrible is that when someone has a physical sickness, they get sympathy and love from those in their lives. However, when someone begins to suffer from mental illness, they’re looked down on or socially exiled. It’s for this reason that most people with mental illness choose not to seek help. Let me give you guys a few statistics that I believe will blow some of your minds:

  • 1 out of 4 people in the U.S. has some sort of mental illness
  • Severe mental illness is classified as having schizophrenia, major depression, Bi-polar Disorder, or psychosis
  • 5.4% of the U.S. population are classified as mentally ill
  • You have a 1 in 88 chance of being killed in a car wreck but you have 1 in 14,300,000 in being killed by a stranger with schizophrenia

I could spend a whole lot of time on this topic because there are so many different mental illnesses; from anxiety to eating disorders to severe mental illnesses as I described above. What I’d like to do is just hone in on 1 particular mental illness-schizophrenia. As I sat there with Patient X last night, I could only imagine the solitude he experienced daily. The fact that he was homeless wasn’t a surprise to me. Many of the homeless suffer from mental illness. My heart went out to him as he sat in that hospital bed talking at length about whatever random fleeting thoughts that would come up. Check out this great infographic on schizophrenia…

Did you know THIS about Network Marketing?

Unemployment is on the rise and jobs are on the decline. Although the government would try to convince us that the job market is getting better, they don’t take into account all those that have just given up on finding work and just drop off the proverbial grid. This makes the job numbers appear to be getting better. All the while 52% of college graduates aren’t getting jobs in the fields of study they paid for, which is making it EXTREMELY difficult to pay back their school loans. It’s estimated that the average college graduate has over $30k in student loans.

Let’s face it, over the past 7+ years U.S. companies have grown quite use to running on skeleton crews. As a matter of fact, thStart-Network-Marketing-Companyey have gotten real good at it. The idea of going to school, getting good grades, going to college and then graduating, getting a great job and retiring in 40 years is a thing of the past. That idea was attributed to the Industrial Age, which ended at the turn of the century. We’ve now entered the Information Age and those who don’t move with the times are going to get left behind…way behind.

One of the most recent statistics I’ve seen on entrepreneurship is that 73% of Americans would like to own their own business. The idea of being the boss intrigues a lot of people. So why aren’t more people doing it? Well, they are! After the downturn in the economy in 2008 people began looking at alternative career paths. Instead of working for a boss, maybe I should become the boss!

These2eeb735days we carry devices in our pockets that hold more technology than space command did during the first Apollo Mission. We can communicate on a global scale for free and do it easily and effectively. This has allowed the ordinary everyday average Joe like you and me operate global online franchises from the comfort of our homes. How might you ask? Through Network Marketing!

The Network Marketing Industry has GREATLY evolved from the “Old West” days where there was NO regulation and pyramid schemes and scams were all over the place. It’s just not like that anymore, and if a company starts looking shady, they are shut down REAL QUICK. I’m not going to say there aren’t deceptive practices out there within the Network Marketing community, because there certainly are! But I can say that for EVERY single industry out there. As a network marketing professional who was HIGHLY skeptical at first, it is my opinion that Network Marketing is the most ethical and best way for the average person to take control of their finances and their liveimagess.

Network Marketing is SO close to franchising its scary. Accept Network Marketing is different and better than franchising in 3 ways:

  1. It is FAR less expensive to start a Network Marketing Business. Average Franchise costs anywhere between $250k-$500k. To start your own Network Marketing Business, you’ll shell out less than the cost of a PS4.

Note-I hate when people say stuff like, “Why do I have to pay to start?” What job have you EVER had where it didn’t cost money to start? I paid $50k to become a nurse. Even when I was a kid I worked at McDonalds and had to buy non-skid shoes, 2 pair of slacks, 3 shirts and a belt. When I worked offshore, I had to buy uniforms, gloves, boots, etc. Even if you wanted to start a Lemonade stand, you’d spend money on the pitcher, the cups, the lemonade, the stand, etc. EVERYTHING COSTS MONEY TO START.

2.With a typical franchise, the only one that gets the benefit of leverage is the Franchise Corporate Office. (leverage is when you get paid on more than just your efforts). This means as a franchise owner, you only get paid by the customers that come through your doors, while Franchise Corporate gets to recruit independent distributors (franchise owners) and gets paid a percentage of all of their profits. In Network Marketing you get the opportunity and benefit, should you choose to use it, of recruiting other “franchise” owners. This is a benefdonaldit because it gives you what Franchise Corporate has and that is leverage.

Note-Just because you have a Network Marketing business, you do not have to recruit. Actually, you can just go out there and sell products and/or services and make a great living on a very part time basis. I know people that do this VERY well. But the best way to create leverage is illustrated in this famous quote by the American Businessman John D. Rockafeller “I would rather earn 1% of 100 people’s efforts than 100% of my own.”

3.Last but not least, with a Network Marketing enterprise, one is not limited to a particular location. They can run their business anywhere they have wi-fi or cellular signal. Whereas, a franchise owner is VERY limited by the fact that he/she has to report to a building every d448659260_640ay in order for his franchise to operate. The franchise owner doesn’t have a job anymore, he owns his job and typically makes less than his employees. Which brings me to another reason Network Marketing is better than Franchising…employees. That’s for a different post. 😉

I hope this has helped! The Network Marketing industry has been REALLY good to us. My wife and I have built a global team of Network Marketing entrepreneurs and have enjoyed empowering countless people to own and operate their own businesses, putting them on the path to freedom.

I could literally right a book on Network Marketing (AKA MLM). As a matter of fact, I have! I’ve packed all the information I have learned in an easy to read format. This information is the exact system my wife and I used to build our Network Marketing business. If you’d like a copy of this eBook, just click right here!     s (4)_resize_resize_resize

The REAL DEAL About Gluten

Gluten-free products are on the rise. As a matter of fact, there are more gluten-free products sold on store shelves than ever before in history. This has created quite the concern with people, because those that don’t exactly know what gluten is are curious about whether or not they should be avoiding it altogether.  As a nurse I hear this quite often,”What is gluten?” or “Is gluten bad for me?” So I felt it a great topic to quickly go over so you all can be in the know.

untitled-infographic2Gluten is the stuff in bread that holds it together. It makes bread chewy and makes pre-cooked dough elastic so that it stretches. It’s actually a protein found in wheat and other similar grains, like barley and rye. People that have the biggest issue with gluten are people who’ve been diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease. This is, what they call, a genetic auto-immune disease where the small intestine has become damaged and causes a problem when it comes to absorbing certain nutrients from food. The good news is that only about 1% of the population in the U.S. has been diagnosed with this disease. However about 85% of those people are un-diagnosed or mis-diagnosed with other illnesses. The bad news is that there are about 5 times as many people who are gluten sensitive aka Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity.

NewFoods-US

Gluten sensitivity is a little trickier. Gluten sensitivity is the condition where there is little to NO intestinal damage that occurs with Celiac’s Disease and that this effects about 18 million people in the U.S., an
d most of them are adults. There is some growing research out there that is suggesting that people who have these gluten sensitivities aren’t sensitive to gluten, but instead to a particular type of poorly-digested carbohydrate the are calling FODMAP’s but this research is still in its early stages.

If you’re worried that you may be sensitive to gluten, have a gluten allergy, or may even be thinking you want to get checked out for Celiac’s Disease, here are some symptoms that could indicate you have an issue with gluten:

  • bloating, gas and/or abdominal pain
  • hard to flush, bulky or loose stools
  • diarrhea or constipation/itchy skin rash
  • tingling or numbness in hands and feet
  • discolored teeth or loss of enamel
  • canker sores/joint pain/fractures or thin bones
  • irritability or behavior changes/significant unexplained weight loss
  • poor weight gain/delayed growth

Although I’ve never had any issues with gluten, I have had many clients that have. Many of them struggle to find healthy food and snack options that are not only gluten free but taste good also. This is one of the many reasons I’ve chosen USANA Health Sciences as a product partner. Their food line is not only gluten free and delicious, but it is a low glycemic option. This means it won’t spike blood sugars and is a healthy choice for Type II diabetics too. Here’s a little video clip that I’ve found useful explaining USANA’s delicious gluten-free food line.

If you’d like to know more about USANA and their food line, click here.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions you might be having about gluten and whether or not it’s a healthy choice for you. If you’d like some more answers on this topic, I’d suggest you go to the Celiac Disease Foundation website. It’s a great resource and is HIGHLY educational.

5 Predictions they got right; GREAT SCOTT!!! I know Doc. This is heavy.

In 1985 I was 8 years old. I can remember it like it was yesterday! I remember the tight-rolled, slim fit jeans and skateboarding all the time in the little town I lived in at the time. I also remember the first time I watched “Back to the Future” with Michael J. Fox. I was mesmerized. My love for skateboarding and playing the guitar only grew from there.

It seemed like FOREVER before “Back to the Future Part II” came out. I remember thinking “They just left us hanging!” The very last scene where the car starts to take off and Doc Brown says probably one of the most memorable lines in Hollywood “Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” I was REELING! Then, when they aired the first trailer for Part II?! I about lost my mind!

Well, today, as most245E422D00000578-2893737-image-a-22_1420154618736 people are aware, unless they’re living under a rock, is THE DAY. It’s the day where Marty and Doc Brown arrive 30 years into the future to save his son from ruining his life. Has it been that long? WOW! So how much have things changed since 1985? How many things did Robert Zemeckis get right and how
many things did he get wrong? To be honest, he hit the nail right on the head on A LOT of stuff. Why don’t we go through the list:

1.The first thing that pops to my mind is whenever the Older Marty is talking to Needles on TV! At this time, Skype wasn’t even thought of. However, its nothing to talk to someone face to face not just on TV screens and monitors but even on our PHONES! How cool is that?bttf-skype

2.There is one scene where cops find Jennifer in the alleyway passed out and they scan her fingerprints to locate her identity AND THEN scan her fingerprints to access the security lock for her home. The future is now folks! Apple paved the way and now other phones are using fingerprint scanning for security features. Plus, cops are using that same fingerprint technology to identify criminals and even locate criminals.

3.There is one scene where Marty’s son and daughter are wearing glasses to watch TV! Did you guys notice that? When the phone rings they both get the notification about the phone ringing through their glasses. I wonder if that’s where the think tanks at Microsoft got the idea for the Google Glass?

4.Them shoes though! Those Nik2D9904AB00000578-3281282-Despite_the_lack_of_smartphones_in_Back_to_the_Future_Marty_McFl-a-30_1445363435344e self-lacing shoes were THE BOMB! Guess what? It just so happens that JUST RECENTLY Nike has announced they were in manufacture mode of the Nike Self-Lacing shoes from Back to the Future and that they would be selling within the next year. I WILL be having a pair of those NO DOUBT!

5.THE CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!! Okay, maybe they didn’t win the world series. As a matter of fact, today the Mets finished off the Cubs with a 4 game SWEEP…ouch! However, it’s been quite a while since the Cubs even
made it to the World Series. So, although they didn’t win, it was ALMOST spot on, which would have been crazy!

Well, that’s just about all I can recall. Can you think of anything I missed? Post it belnormal_scnet_bttf2_0788ow. I’d love to hear from you guys! It’s too bad we don’t have hover-boards or flying cars or even Mr Fusion! We’ve still got quite away to go for those kinds of technological advances, but make no mistake the future is now. We wear watches on our arms that control all kinds of things, phones that we use for almost everything, and lets not forget the new autopilot feature by Tesla Motors. Haven’t heard of that yet? Check that out here.

5 Things you MUST do if you witness someone collapse…PLEASE READ

So it’s Saturday afternoon and it’s a beautiful day outside. As you and your afternoon dinner date leave the restaurant you feel the sun shining down on you while a cool breeze blows your hair back out of your face. Needless to say, its a beautiful day. As you’re walking toward your vehicle, discussing what you guys are going to do next, you notice an elderly couple walking ahead of you hand in hand. All of a sudden you see the elderly woman collapse to the ground. You and your date and the elderly woman’s husband are the only ones around…what do you do?

If this has never happened to you this can be a VERY scary situation. But have no fear! I’m going to give you some great info that you can take with you that will probably save someones life and make you look like a hero. 🙂

First, DO NOT PANIC! Know that everything is in God’s hands. You do what you can do, and He will do the rest. It’s your job to remain cool and focused on the task at hand. You’ll find when you stay calm you will be able to think more clearly.

Second, call 911. If there is someone with you, you will get THEM to call 911. Most of the time when someone goes down it is cardiac related. However, it could also be a stroke (brain attack) or a seizure. This being said, ideally, it would be great to get another bystander to go find a defibrillator. So, look around and speak SPECIFICALLY to a person and say “Go find a defibrillator as fast as you can.” If you are alone, don’t worry about the defibrillator. EMS will be bringing one with them. Even if they come to before EMS arrives or before someone comes back with the defibrillator, that person is still going to go the hospital because what just happened.

Third, roll them over onto their back and shake them while shouting “CAN YOU HEAR ME?! ARE YOU OK?!” If nImage79o response QUICKLY expose their bare chest and see if they are breathing by noticing if there is any rise and fall of the chest. While you’re watching their chest, your ear is up to their mouth to hear and feel if there is any breathing going on. This should take no longer than 5-10 seconds.

Fourth, check for a pulse. Try placing the pointerand middle fingers of your dominant hand directly to their right side of the throat. If no pulse, it’s time foCarotid-pulser some action. In this case place your hands on top of each other and begin pushing on their chest to the tune “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees (or 100 beatsper minute). Be sure to push deep each time. Right now you might be wondering, “When do I do the mouth to mouth?” You don’t have to! The new guidelines place emphasis on “quality” chest compressions, not rescue breathing.

Fifth and final thing is to continue with chest compressions for as long as you can, for as long as there is no pulse, or until EMS arrives. If someone manages to bring a defibrillator to you, just follow the instructions given to you by the defibrillator after it has been connected to the patient.

So let’s recap:

  1. Don’t panic
  2. Call 911
  3. Check responsiveness
  4. Check pulse
  5. Begin and continue chest compressions until EMS arrive or you become worn out.

If you’ve found this helpful please Share and/or Retweet this post. It could just save someone’s life…maybe even your own.

5 Morning Habits That Will Change Your Life

If you’re like me, mornings are no bueno! Well, they use to be. My morning routine use to go like this (let me know if this sounds familiar); Iphone alarm goes off and I refuse to get up until I hit snooze at least 3 times. After I will myself to consciousness, I stumble out of bed in a hurry to get to the shower, depending on whether or not I hit snooze one too many times. In a mad dash I barely dry off before I start jumping into my clothes. I get all buttoned up and tucked in before I remember to put on my deoderant (this has happened too many times to mention). I fly down the stairs and pray I remembered to set the timer on the Keurig…I didn’t. I then throw on my shoes and I’m out the door. WHEW! Just made it!

So, for how many of you does this ring true? If so, I am about to set you free! I can’t remember a time in my life I was really a “morning” person. It wasn’t until I became an entrepreneur that I was introduced to principles of success and personal development that has by now completely transformed not only how I see life, but how I live life. Those two topics alone have been a game-changer for me. Today, I enjoy playing the role of “change agent” for so many people out there trying to take their lives to the next level.

It’s my goal in writing this today to help those out there who would love to take control of their mornings. I had always heard about those people who get up at the butt-crack of dawn and calmly cruise their mornings with ease, I envied those people. I wanted to have that, but in the epic “battle of the bed” I always lost until…

  1. REST-First things first. You can’t have a great morning without a great night’s rest. THIS is the MOST IMPORTANT HABIT (even though its not exactly a morning habit)you can create for yourself-getting t
o bed early. There is volumes of information published on the importance of sleep. The 3 R’s (Rest, Recovery, Rejuvenation) that you get from a good 7 hours of sleep will do more for you than anything else in this blog, but is also the cornerstone of the following habits. By the way, going to bed early for me is 10:00pm.
  2. WAKE UP EARLY. I cannot say enough
about the importance of waking up early. Robin Sharma, Leadership Expert, Author and former Litigation Attorney, goes into great depth as to why getting up at 5am will change your life. He states that when you get up at 5am your focus is at its peak, more so than any other time throughout your day. He also claims that it is an enormous psychological win to be a part of the 5am club. Your energy is up, your focus is high, your creativity is at its best AND when it comes to your work, YOU have the advantage. You have differentiated yourself from the masses of people who are living their lives as victims of circumstance. I hope I’ve convinced you how important it is to make it a habit of getting up early.
  3. WATERBefore you have that first cup of coffee, drink 2 full glasses of the good stuff. You have just been asleep for 7 hours and your body is SCREAMING for some water. In the morninfaucet-runninggs your body is dehydrated and drinking a couple of cups of coffee is just going to make matters worse. Those first 2 glasses of water does so much. First, it fires up your metabolism which means what? WEIGHT LOSS! Second, it will help flush your body of toxins. Third, it keeps you regular and relieves constipation. Last but not least, drinking water first thing in the morning balances your lymph system which aids in immune function.
  4. MORNING MEDITATION/PRAYER-I enjoy my quiet time in the morning. We have four boys, 2 of those are like 2 tornadoes zipping throughout the house while awake. This quiet time in prayer in the morning, before anyone wakes upphotodune-5641418-morning-meditation-m allows me to focus myself and my attention to God. It is so easy to allow the stress and frustrations of the day take over my mind. When I miss out on this time, my whole day is different. If we focus on all the things that stress us out in the world, we can lose our minds, and often times people do! Instead, I prefer to follow the Bible’s instruction and cast my cares to the Lord. Arianna Huffington, multi-millionaire and founder of Huffington Post feels so strongly about meditation
    and prayer time she enco
urages it to her staff and even offers classes at work.
  5. EXERCISEAs an ICU Nurse, I have seen the result of a life lived without taking health seriously. These days we are living longer than ever before, but what does it matter if only half our body’s work or we’re confined to a bed for the rest of our days? The American HeartAssociation recommends we get 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week. If you’re like I was before I began working less (Thank God for USANA), then you probably find it difficult to fit in a gym session anywhere in your day. However, if you follow the previous 4 habits, you should be able to fit in 30 minutes of a brisk walk in the morning. If it’s too cold outside, then climb your stairs slowly for 30 minutes. I’ve done both of these and they both get the heart pumping. You will feel SO MUCH BETTER afterwards.

Well, that’s it! These habits aren’t going to happen over night. It takes time to develop a habit. A great tip is to first start with going to bed early. Then one at a time, implement the other habits. As Robin Sharma said, “Change is HARD at the beginning, MESSY in the middle, and GORGEOUS in the end!”
